Successful Figure Competition Season!

(Photography by Savoir-Faire,

Wow…this competition season was amazing!! My first figure competition took place on May 30,1015 and I placed 1st in Figure Novice. Then the following week later…

6-6-15 trophy

I placed 3rd in Figure Over 30, and 4th in Figure Open (all in my respective classes)! I honestly did not think I was going to place. But I’m overall happy with the whole prep and the package I brought to the stage! I had a lot going on in the beginning of this prep…I got the flu, my father discovered he has liver cancer, my husband developed a heart condition, my kids struggling in school, my work load was overwhelming….so much mental and emotional exhaustion going on. But by the grace of God…the fire was still lit within me to keep going. It was one of those times where I felt extremely close to God as I prayed daily, and read scripture every morning. He was truly with me every step of the way. Along with that, my amazing coach was didn’t give up on me either. His incredible patience and guidance helped me tremendously. He’s a true, caring coach that works so hard for his clients because he cares so much. To me that is a the definition of a great coach. The bonus is that he knows his stuff and is a genius!!! Should you ever have the interest to compete, or just would like to lose weight, gain muscle, whatever….Shawn Nutter with Fusion Training Systems is your man!! I have been working with him for a year now, and have no plans on leaving! He’s my mentor and friend…and this is just the beginning…..

Erythritol: A Natural and Sugar Free Sweetener

I’ve been doing some extra homework on sugar free sweeteners, and found some great articles on Erythritol! It’s naturally occuring in fruit, and…

-It contains almost no calories.
-It has 70% of the sweetness of sugar.
-It doesn’t raise blood sugar or insulin levels.
-Human studies show very little side effects… mainly minor digestive issues in some people.
-Studies where animals are fed massive amounts for long periods of time show no adverse effects.

Of course all things in moderation, but this alternative sweetener gets many thumbs up!

Supplement Detox: Why it isn’t such a bad idea!

So here you are. You take a preworkout, a fat burner, BCAAs, etc etc. you’ve been doing it for months to help you achieve your goals. Totally legit stuff too! I mean, it’s tough to NOT use a preworkout for energy & to get a good pump going for a workout you are about to endure (especially for those 5am or 6pm workouts!). But the crash afterwards totally wears you out. The burners aren’t working (I typically use l-Carnitine or green tea extract), BCAAs are bloating you & rough on the stomach…you feel miserable! Not only that, you are not seeing any progress!!! That’s the worse!

Well, a supplement detox may be in order!

This is exactly what I have been experiencing myself lately. After a while, your body needs change in order to keep progressing. We know this when it comes to workouts and diet (you can’t keep doing the same workout and eat the same things day in & day out, and expect to keep losing weight or keep gaining muscle!), BUT it also stands true for supplements! Don’t forget that!

There is also such a thing as too much of a good thing. For 2 months, I was taking BCAAs nearly all day long in order to preserve muscle gains while dieting to shed fat. It bloated me and I always felt run down. But I thought it was all because of the training, cardio, & low carb diet. Guess what was a big part of it….Too Much BCAAs! Yes, you can take in too much!

I recently read an article in TRAIN magazine supplied to my by titled “The Limits of BCAAs”. The article explains that too much consumption can cause fatigue and decrease your levels of important nutrients. It can elicit ammonia production which causes the fatigue. Plus too much leucine (key activator of protein synthesis) without increase of 2 other important BCAAs, valine & isoleucine, could actually DECREASE protein synthesis…and we don’t want that!

So make sure if you are consuming BCAAs, choose 2:1:1 ratio. Also take no more than 136mg/lb.

But as far as the detox goes, give it a week…then give it another week without using supplements (but always keep your vitamins, fish oil, whey protein, etc). Try using only black coffee as your energy booster. That is what I have been doing for the past week and I feel amazing!!!! This change along with a new workout regime, new diet plan…I’m finally making progress! And that is what keeps me going and focused on achieving my goals.

New Year!

It’s a new year for us all, and as most of us do, like to set our resolutions or goals for the year. The biggest one? Weight loss and eating better. Well folks, you have come to the right place!

I will begin my new blog with some “clean” treats. And by “clean” I don’t mean spic-n-span clean, but HEALTHIER treats that are diet friendly. Low glycemic carbs and protein (and some healthy fats too!) are the combination to aid in your fat loss efforts! And pretty much for all around health too!

I’m excited to begin on this endeavor as I have always enjoyed helping others…and baking too!

So, I hope you enjoy!
